Google took a huge step when they released new AdSense for Search options today, some which no longer show the branded Google logo in the search unit implementation but instead uses the words “Google Search” in the button.

I have never had much luck with AdSense for Search (in fact, I only know a handful of publishers – mostly with similar types of sites – that have had much success with this product from AdSense), and part of the problem was the bulky implementation of the search box that publishers are required to use. I will have to start testing this one again.
Other features added to AdSense for Search inclue the ability to choose the country/territory that will be used for results (ie. using Google.ca or Google.co.uk instead of Google.com, for example)

Adsense search takes a leap forward
As first reported this morning on JenSense – Google is now offering a branding free search option. This is a great step forward for Google search imo. Here is what the new search looks like-

actually Jen, the possibility of selecting a specific geo Google (ie google.co.uk or google.ca) has always been an option, but it is definitely cool that you can remove the google logo now.
Search box is still “bulky” when you select Google SiteSearch option. Colors of submit button need to be customizable as well.
Jen, you mentioned that a certain type of site is successful with Adsense for Search. Care to ellaborate?
Hello,
I think this is absolutely great news. Now I can move the google search box from the bottom of my site to the top where it will enjoy more attention.
Thanks!

I tried to post a very short comment about customizing Google SiteSearch for individual web sites, but this system keeps telling me my comment is denied for questionable content.
This site uses a customized google link. How did they do it?

As noted by hoover, one still can’t have a compact ‘site search’ system using the google solution. Too bad. It’s funny how theyinsist on making site search so bulky when clearly this is the number one reason why people want adsense for search on their sites.
Success of AdSense for Search can also be tied to how search is integrated into the site. Adding it to a custom 404 page is a great option, and placing the search box in a prominent location makes sense . . . that is, if your visitors rely on search to navigate your site.
