While creating some AdSense ad unit javascript for a client today, I noticed a new feature in the AdSense control panel, the ability to chose the style of corners in the ad unit. Publishers can now select “slightly rounded”, “very rounded” or “squared” corners on their ad units, which is done by adding a new line to the javascript.
Here is what the slightly rounded looks like:

Very rounded:

And squared:

And here is what the implementation looks like in the control panel (click for larger view):
This is a great stylizing change for publishers who want the ad units to mesh well with a site. Now you can chose the corner styles that best match the rest of the site.

Wow, that might make it worthwhile to actually include borders on the ads. Especially if you did something like setting the background of the page to the color of the border and then the ads would just kind of appear in the rounded hole in the page.
Wow - very cool Jen. It is nice to be given the rounded corner option, especially if your site design is rounded and smooth for the most part.
Wow! I love it and it’s about time.
Dear Jane,
So nice to see you in action again. Thanks for the tip. I immediately tried on my site and will wait for the result. I hope its not going to interfere in the videos of that size. I love rounded corners. It looks pretty.

I think there are only a few publishers that use visual borders
Yes I noticed that yesterday too, and what a very nice effect it is too. In the adsense blog Google hint that there’s plenty more where that came from coming soon. I wait with baited breath.
For my sites I do not believe that such a feature will improve my CTR, partly because I do not use any rounded borders and I go for the ‘ad-blended’ model of implimentation, so such a border would make the ad stand-out more than blend.
It is of course always nice to have that extra choice.
Yes, i am glad to know the new feature, i will try it and find out whether it will increase the ctr or not.
It would be nice to have it available where it is useful, like on adlink 728×15
Instead I have to do it by hand.
This opens up a whole new world for designing your ads to look one with your site.
