First sighting of Mirago's Context Stream

The first site beta testing Mirago's new contexual advertising program, Context Stream, is now displaying "Powered by Mirago" ads, which closely resemble the well-known AdSense ad units.

The javascript used to handle the ads is quite different from AdSense and most other AdSense-type contextual programs.

<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
var settings='&ass=99999&amp;filter=1&amp;xsl=8&amp;nres=4';
var ref_url=document.referrer;
var width = '336';
var height = '336';
var txt;
txt='<ifr' + 'ame width="' + width + '" height="' + height + '" style="border-style:none" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="http://www.mirago.co.uk/scripts/contextual.aspx?' + 'url=' + ref_url + settings + '"></iframe>';
document.write(txt);
-->
</script>
Search Engine Watch forum moderator, DaveN - who is also a beta tester - reports that Mirago will also allow Context Stream to appear on publisher sites that are currently forbidden from running Google AdSense on. This means that that there is an alternative for publishers who are unable to run AdSense due to content or topic policy restrictions, and could be Mirago's way of getting their foot in the door in the Google-dominated contextual publisher market.
